# How to change the default microphone used by Voice In?

You can change the microphone in the browser or in the operating system (OS).

**NOTE:** Sometimes the browser cannot change the microphone. In this case, change the microphone at the OS level.

## Update in Browser

To check or change the microphone that Voice In uses, open the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/). The Options page shows the current microphone. Click the **Change** button at the end of the line.

The browser's microphone settings page opens. The circled value below shows the browser's current microphone. To change the microphone that Voice In uses, click the dropdown and select the microphone that you want.

Go back to the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/) and check that Voice In uses the correct microphone.

If this does not work, change the default microphone at the OS level, as described below.

## Update at OS Level

**For Windows:**

1. **Open the Sound settings:**
   * Click the Start menu and select 'Settings'.
   * Go to 'System' and then 'Sound'.
2. **Select the correct microphone:**
   * Under 'Input', make sure that the correct microphone is selected.
   * Speak into the microphone and check that the input level indicator moves. If it moves, your microphone works correctly.
