# Voice In Plus Guide

This guide assumes that you have already upgraded to Voice In Plus and activated it. If you have not done these two steps, read these articles:

This guide describes the features of Voice In Plus and how to use them.

## Open the Options Page

You configure and enable these features on the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/). To open the Options page:

1. Right-click the Voice In icon (the microphone icon) in the top-right corner of the browser window.

2. Click Options. The Voice In Options page opens.

## 1. Custom Voice Commands <a href="#h_01ed483a62497genpwsf5q5nf0" id="h_01ed483a62497genpwsf5q5nf0"></a>

Voice In has built-in voice commands for everyday tasks such as punctuation, quotes, smileys, and special characters. With custom voice commands, you can create your own voice commands.

Use custom voice commands to correct errors and automate repetitive text entries. For example, a call center agent can map "refund issued text" to a template text that tells the customer that their payment refund was issued.

To add custom voice commands, open the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/) and scroll to the Voice Commands section. Then follow the instructions for Custom Voice Commands.

## 2. Advanced Mode <a href="#h_01ed48f29a8nmt9zyryzr4j31r" id="h_01ed48f29a8nmt9zyryzr4j31r"></a>

Advanced Mode helps Voice In insert text on websites where Default Mode does not work reliably, including sites with complex editors. You dictate in the same way; Voice In handles text insertion differently.

**Advanced Mode is enabled by default with Voice In Plus.** If you need to change it for a particular website, see [How to enable or disable Advanced Mode](/help/features/how-to-enable-or-disable-advanced-mode.md).

## 3. Dictate Across Multiple Tabs

By default, dictation stops when you switch tabs, and you need to start Voice In again manually. When you enable this feature, you can switch tabs and dictation keeps going.

To enable it, open the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/) and select the Dictate Across Multiple Tabs option in the Dictation Settings section.

## 4. Dictation Box <a href="#h_01ed484b4jcmjdqpj2b2p7hd5w" id="h_01ed484b4jcmjdqpj2b2p7hd5w"></a>

We add support for new websites all the time. But if Voice In does not work on a website, you can use the Dictation Box to dictate on that page. The Dictation Box opens a text box on the page, and you can always dictate into it. When you finish, copy the text and paste it into the target text box.

To enable the Dictation Box:

1. Start Voice In on the target page and click the page pop-up.

2. In the settings pop-up that opens, select "enable dictation box for this domain".

The Dictation Box appears as shown below. Click inside the box and dictate. When you finish, click Copy to copy the text, and then paste it into the field that you want.

## 5. Language Switcher

With the Language Switcher, you can switch between multiple languages without restarting Voice In. Currently, you can switch between three languages.

To configure the three languages:

1. Open the Language Switcher section on the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/).

2. Select the three languages that you want to switch between.

You can switch between the languages in two ways:

1. **Keyboard Shortcuts**: Each language has a keyboard shortcut, as the image above shows. When Voice In is ON, press the shortcut of a language to switch to it.
2. **Page Buttons**: On the Options page, select the "Show language switching options in the page pop-up" checkbox. Language switching buttons then appear on the page where you dictate, as shown below. Click a button to change the language.

## 6. Change Case <a href="#h_01ed484xn6rcthz3deqwp68m88" id="h_01ed484xn6rcthz3deqwp68m88"></a>

You can change the case of the dictated text, for example to Sentence case, UPPERCASE, or lowercase. This setting is in the Dictation Text Transforms section on the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/).

Sentence case solves a critical problem. Dictated output often cannot tell if a word in a given context is a proper noun. As a result, some words are capitalized by mistake. When you set the case to "Sentence case", Voice In uses uppercase only at the start of a sentence.

## 7. Remove Censorship/Profanity Filter

By default, the browser's speech-to-text engine censors curse words. If you want or need uncensored transcriptions, disable the profanity filter.

## 8. Cursor Lock (Beta)

With Cursor Lock, you can pin the dictation to a tab. After you pin it, you can switch tabs freely, and your text still goes into the pinned tab.

To enable Cursor Lock, click and hold the settings icon for four seconds.

The icon changes to a lock icon, and a notice appears that says "cursor lock enabled".

In the tab with Cursor Lock, dictate at least one word into the target text box. This tells Voice In which text box to insert text into. Cursor Lock works on ChatGPT, Gmail, and other websites. It may not work on all websites.

## 9. AI Transforms (Beta)

AI Transforms rewrite text with AI when you press a keyboard shortcut. Dictation can be noisy, with misheard words, missing punctuation, and random capitalization. Select the dictated text and press the **Polish** shortcut. The cleaned-up version replaces it. A second Transform, **Prompt Engineer**, turns a spoken request into a well-structured prompt for an AI assistant.

To set up AI Transforms, open the AI Transforms section on the [Voice In Options page](https://dictanote.co/voicein/options/) and assign keyboard shortcuts to the Transforms. Polish has a default shortcut; check the shortcut shown on its card. The second Transform has no default shortcut and can be customized with **Edit**. To practice on a sample passage, click **Try it out** on the Options page.
